Bottle decor - 5 best ideas to create a small work of art

If after any festive event you still have a beautiful glass bottle - do not rush to send it to the scrap, believe me, it will still come in handy. For example, it can make an excellent vase or just an original accessory that decorates the room. I will tell you below how to create a unique bottle decor with your own hands without any special financial costs.

How to create an original and unusual bottle?

It seems to me that decorating is good for absolutely everyone. This is both a way to create a stylish little thing without spending money on expensive materials (you can decorate with everything that comes to hand), and an opportunity to feel like a real artist, showing all your imagination to decorate glass. In addition, it is a great soothing and peaceful pastime.

I have selected some of the simplest options for decorating bottles, which even those who have never done hand-made can easily cope with. About them below.

Idea 1. Salt

When I said that you can decorate a bottle with your own hands from almost everything that is in the apartment, I was not joking. Did you know that regular kitchen salt is a great decorating tool? How best to use it - now I'll tell you.

There are two options for decorating glass products with salt. I will share with you both.

Method 1

For this option you will need:

  • salt;
  • the bottle itself
  • heat-resistant dishes;
  • fork and sieve;
  • kitchen funnel;
  • acrylic paint.

Mix the salt with the paint of your loved one and knead the resulting slurry well with a fork. In a heat-resistant dish, send the mixture to an oven preheated to 100 degrees for about an hour.

After the allotted time, remove the bowl, knead the salt again with a fork and sift it through a sieve. Thus, you will get, as it were, small crystals of colored sand. Make a few various kinds mixtures, changing the color of the paint.

To make your craft look even more original, feel free to combine and mix shades with each other, thereby creating an unusual color scheme.

With the help of a funnel, start adding salt one by one, alternating shades in layers. After filling the vessel to the top, simply cork it with a decorative stopper and put it in a conspicuous place.

Method 2

Another easy way to decorate a bottle with salt involves using regular rubber bands and white paint. The only condition is that their width should be more than 5 mm.

Wrap a few rubber bands on the bottle in random order, cover the glass with a layer of paint. After it dries, treat the surface with glue. Sprinkle a sufficient amount of salt on a sheet of plain paper and, as it were, roll the accessory in it.

Make sure that the salt evenly covers the product, then remove the gum. As a result, you will get a fabulous decorative bottle, literally covered with a layer of snow. This decor option will be a wonderful decoration for new year holidays Or someone who misses winter.

You can do without the use of elastic bands - then the impromptu "snow" will cover the glass in an even layer.

Idea 2. Decoupage

This decorating method is a bit more complicated than the previous one, but the effect is really amazing.

So, in addition to a beautifully shaped bottle, you will need:

  • acrylic paint in white and a couple of other shades;
  • brushes of various shapes and sizes;
  • PVA glue;
  • napkin for decoupage with your favorite pattern;
  • acetone;
  • cotton wool;
  • eggshell;
  • coating varnish.

The sequence of actions is extremely simple:

  1. Clean the bottle from the labels, rinse it and degrease the surface with acetone.
  2. With a small piece of sponge covered with white paint, paint the entire bottle except for the bottom with dotted movements. It should be treated after the rest of the surface has dried.
  3. After the first layer has hardened, repeat the procedure.
  4. Separate upper layer napkins with a selected pattern from the other two. Attach it to the surface of the bottle and grease with PVA glue. It is necessary to act very carefully, as the napkin is easily torn.
    It is best to coat the material with a fan brush from the center towards the edges.

  1. After that, you need to give the product the desired color. Most often, bottles in the interior have delicate pastel colors, but you can choose any shade you like. Just make sure that it is in harmony with the pattern and does not overlap it.
  2. To add relief and volume to the bottle, I recommend using eggshells. It must be thoroughly washed and cleaned of a thin film, then crushed into many pieces different shapes and sizes.
  3. Alternately lubricating the surface area with glue, and pressing pieces of the shell to it, process the entire bottle. Next, you should paint it in the color of the product.
  4. After decorating with eggshells, it is necessary to paint over the resulting cracks with a thin brush and a different shade of paint.
  5. At the end, treat the product with varnish and enjoy the result.

It takes more time to decorate a bottle using decoupage technique than other methods, however, in the end you will get a unique and stylish vase or decorative element. By the way, you can decorate the neck with beautiful satin ribbons or lacing.

Idea 3. Gypsum

You can create texture and add relief with the help of, what would you think? Gypsum!

Yes, modern craftswomen even with gypsum manage to work wonders.

And let me tell you, the result is worthwhile:

  1. Mix gypsum with water, a tablespoon of PVA glue to a creamy consistency.
  2. Next, you will need a small fabric flap: gauze, chintz or cotton.
  3. Dip the fabric in a plaster solution and attach it to the bottle, giving it a relief texture.
  4. Paint the surface with white acrylic paint.
  5. Next, we proceed in the same way as I described in the previous section on the decoupage technique. Attach the selected pattern and process it with glue.
  6. We paint the bottle in the desired color and wait for it to dry. After we process the edges of the formed folds with mother-of-pearl and apply a layer of varnish.

Idea 4. Threads

A bottle decorated with threads will add warmth and comfort to your home interior.

It is incredibly easy to make, all you need is threads of any size and color, as well as double-sided tape.

  1. Tape the bottle from the neck to the bottom with double-sided tape.
  2. Start wrapping the product with thread. Make sure that each new row fits snugly against the previous one and does not form gaps.
  3. Feel free to combine thread colors. The brighter the shades, the more original the final result will be.

I also want to note that instead of adhesive tape, it is quite possible to use ordinary PVA glue. Then each thread should be thoroughly moistened with glue and only then applied to the glass surface.

In a similar way, you can create decor with twine. In conclusion, it would be appropriate to decorate the product with cute buttons or beads, gluing them to the material with special glue.

Idea 5. Cereals and pasta

Agree, using pasta as a decorative element is quite an interesting and unusual idea.

To create such a non-trivial decoration, you will also need some peas, cereals, a hot glue gun and acetone.

  1. Degrease the bottle with acetone and grease it with glue.
  2. Glue peas to the bottom of the bottle, use several types of cereals a little higher for decoration. By combining them, create a pattern on the surface.
  3. Divide the bow-shaped pasta into 4 parts. Using a heat gun, connect them into a small flower, use a small pea instead of a core. In random order, glue the resulting flowers to the bottle.
  4. As a final touch, paint the entire pattern with gold paint.

Believe me, in the end, no one you know will guess what your stylish bottle is made of.

The direction of Decoupage is somewhere in the middle between Hand-made and art. The word decoupage came to us from French and literally means "cut", but in fact is a kind of application. It is based on the technique of sticking various patterns on paper, napkins, fabrics on hard surfaces. Decoupage is actively used in decorating art, techniques are actively developing, the list of materials used and objects that are used for decoration is expanding.

Decoupage bottles photo

During the formation of decoupage in Russia, one of the first items that literally all masters began to decorate was bottles of wine and champagne. Particular attention was paid to bottles with a non-standard shape and three-dimensional texture. They were not thrown away, but turned into real interior decor.

Used for decoupage bottles various materials and techniques - napkins, putty, decorative elements, or in general, everything that was at hand.

What you need for decoupage, a list for beginners

As mentioned above, there are a lot of performance techniques in decoupage, while they are actively developing - new materials, techniques and directions appear.

But still, there are main directions that we will give:
Classic decoupage - sticking a napkin, decoupage cards, rice paper on a flat hard surface;

Artistic decoupage - differs from the classical one in that artistic techniques, drawings, painting, aging and more are added to the main image;

Reverse decoupage - sticking a picture on the back surface of a transparent base;

Volumetric decoupage - when decorating, various volumetric pastes, putty and decorative elements are used.

In order to work in certain techniques, a set of materials is required - different in each case, but there is a necessary set that any novice craftswoman should have:

Napkins, rice paper, decoupage card- the necessary components for almost any technique, the basis of any composition. You can now buy these materials at any art store, stationery store, or online. You can use regular table napkins if you find interesting ones with good image quality and a suitable subject.

Sandpaper- should always be in the arsenal for polishing surfaces, as a rule, there should be several types of granular - medium and fine, since there are several stages of polishing.

Alcohol or any alcohol-based surface degreaser, nail polish remover can also be used.

Primer- a special acrylic material, applied as a base for decoupage for good adhesion to the surface.

Acrylic paints- in decoupage, only acrylic materials are used, this is due to the fact that they dry quickly and are easy to apply. It is better to have a range of colors in the arsenal, as they are often used for painting.

Glue for decoupage- as a rule, it is acrylic, but ordinary PVA household glue is widely used.

Acrylic lacquer- there are many varieties of acrylic varnish - matte, glossy and chameleon. Many needlewomen use ordinary high-quality acrylic lacquer, but for beginner craftswomen it is recommended to use professional decoupage lacquer.

brushes- Synthetic brushes, mostly flat, have the greatest use in decoupage. Sizes may vary as they are used for different purposes.

stationery file- in some cases it is used for gluing a napkin.
Scissors- are used when cutting out images, many craftswomen use manicure.
Roller- a small construction roller is quite suitable, it is used to smooth the pasted image.

Stack- This is an artistic tool, very good for mixing paints.

What varnish is needed for decoupage

One of the most important materials is decoupage varnish; the overall result often depends on it. As a rule, varnish is applied at the very end to secure the image. The quality and composition of the varnish also affects the final appearance.

Varnishes are divided into several types according to composition and purpose (decorative and finishing).
Acrylic lacquer- the most popular, it is non-toxic, odorless and non-flammable, since on water based. Due to its composition, it dries quickly and does not turn yellow over time.
Acrylic lacquer used not only as a finish, but also as an intermediate - to fix the next layer. Intermediate varnish is further used as a basis for further decor.
Due to its wide compositional possibilities, there is a line of varnishes with decorative effects.
In order to be fully equipped, take care of the availability of several types of varnish in your workshop - ordinary acrylic (matte and glossy) and finish.

What glue is needed for decoupage

For decoupage, acrylic glue is mainly used. Art stores sell special glue for decoupage, it is sold in small jars and is quite expensive.

Majority trademarks, specializing in the production of goods for applied arts, have glue in their lines. In addition, most professional craftswomen actively use PVA construction glue of various brands.

If you are a novice crafter, it is better to use professional glue, but if you do not have the opportunity to purchase glue in an art store, we will talk about the most important characteristics of the glue that are necessary so that it can be used in decoupage work:

  • Colorless on drying;
  • Medium consistency;
  • Should not dry out quickly;
  • Should not turn yellow over time;
  • Should not have an odor.

Decoupage of bottles with napkins step by step, master class

If you have a desire to diversify your interior, we suggest decorating an ordinary glass bottle. It can be used as a decorative piece of furniture, or as a vase.

To decorate the bottle with napkins, you will need:

  • The bottle is glass.
  • Decoupage napkin or card, rice paper is also suitable, the pattern can be any.
  • Alcohol, vodka or solvent for degreasing the surface.
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Decoupage glue or PVA glue.
  • Acrylic varnish.
  • Brushes, sponges (you can use a dish sponge), scissors.

The bottle must first be prepared - cleaned of labels and degreased the surface.

Before gluing the napkin, we will make the background with acrylic paint. Make the background color at your discretion, as long as it matches the pattern on the napkin. Dilute the paint for the background with water so that it turns out to be translucent like a haze. For relief, make several layers. Leave the space for the drawing unfilled.

You need to cut a pattern out of a napkin, but you can simply tear it out with your hands. Separate the bottom two layers of tissue paper.

We apply a napkin to the surface remaining under the drawing and coat it with a layer of glue on top. Try to expel the bubbles and gently straighten the folds. Let the glue dry. Try to work carefully as the napkin is very thin and can easily tear.

Now you need to fix the picture, for this you need to cover the bottle with a thin layer of acrylic varnish.

After the first layer of varnish dries, you can give the bottle an aged look. To do this, dilute black or other dark paint water and use an old toothbrush to spray. It is better to practice on an unnecessary surface first. It must be borne in mind that when sprayed, the paint can scatter in all directions, so it is better to do this over a basin or bucket, no matter how dirty everything around.

After the paint dries, apply two more coats of varnish.

As a result, we got a full-fledged piece of furniture from an unnecessary bottle.

Decoupage of bottles with do-it-yourself tights step by step with a photo

Volumetric decoupage- one of the most popular techniques, for its implementation various auxiliary materials are used to create volume. Texture is achieved by decorative staining with contrasting colors.

  • Nylon tights.
  • Glue thermogun.
  • Peas.

Cut off the stocking part from the tights.

In a deep container, fill with glue and soak.

Put on the bottle and form a drapery, leave to dry.

For a hat, use a metal cap. Put a small piece of stocking soaked in glue on the lid. Connect the ends and twist on top of the lid. Curve the edges of the cap to create the shape of a hat and leave to dry.

Cut strips from the stocking part of the tights.

Collect on a thread each strip.

Form roses.

Saturate the roses with glue and also send to dry.

Glue dried roses on the dress and on the bottle.

Glue the bottle cap to the bottom of the hat.

Glue decorative elements in the form of beads and earrings.

Paint the finished composition with spray paint, first brown and then gold, while painting only protruding parts with gold paint.

Another available material for decorating a bottle using decoupage technique is toilet paper. With its help, you can create any volumetric elements.

You will need:

  • Any PVA glue.
  • Foam sponge.
  • Stationery clip.
  • Synthetic brush.
  • Sponge with large pores.
  • Toilet paper.
  • Napkins.
  • Acrylic paints.
  • Acrylic varnish.

Cover the rest of the bottle liberally with glue.

Lay pieces of toilet paper textured on the surface covered with glue. Leave the bottle to dry.

After the paper dries well, cover the entire surface of the bottle with varnish.

Paint the bottle with a color that matches the color of the napkin.

Draw a picture where necessary.

Dip a dry sponge into the paint, carefully beat it off and walk through the convex places - this will add extra volume.

Dry the bottle thoroughly again and coat with varnish, you can in two layers.

The original decorative bottle is ready.

Decoupage of eggshell bottles master class

Decoupage with eggshells in the final result is similar to the craquelure effect - aging by simulating cracks in the painting. The difference is that the surface becomes more embossed.

The advantage is that not expensive art material is used as a material, but an ordinary eggshell.
Another plus is that with the help of the shell we can hide various minor flaws in the decorated surface, for example, chips.

Many may have a question - what to do first: stick the shell or stick the napkin. In principle, there is not much difference, act according to the situation. The main thing is if you have already pasted the napkin, before you start sticking the shell - varnish the drawing, because when you stick it, there is a high probability that the glue will get on the napkin - it will get wet from this.

Start by covering a small area of the surface with glue and, as shown in the figure, glue the pieces of the shell. Work on small areas.

Below are step-by-step detailed photos.

Decorating with eggshells helps a lot to hide various inscriptions and therefore I often use it to decorate bottles. If you already have an idea how the bottle or object will be decorated - you can start by gluing the shell, if not - first decoupage, then stick the shell.

After covering the entire surface according to the plan, leave the bottle to dry. This may take a long time, but be patient.

Easter is coming, which means that every home will have a lot of colored eggs. So it's time to learn new technology needlework: eggshell crafts.

Eggshells are a great material for creativity. And we offer you two options for its use:

Materials and tools for eggshell crafts

  • eggshell
  • pva glue and brush
  • thick cardboard or other surface (box, vase, etc.)
  • tweezers
  • a small wooden stick, for pressing the shells (a manicure stick is great)
  • acrylic paints if the mosaic is made from white shell
  • decoupage napkin (if needed)

First you need to prepare the material. To do this, the collected eggshells are washed in warm water (and for better degreasing, you can even lower them into boiling water with a soda solution). After that, the shell must be dried, the inner film removed from it and sorted by color.

Professionals use the shell from raw eggs, since the shell that has undergone heat treatment loses its hardness, its surface becomes more loose. But for children's crafts, you can use any shell, including those left over from boiled Easter eggs.

eggshell mosaic

To make an eggshell mosaic with your own hands, you will need a template for the future drawing. If you have artistic abilities, then simply draw a template on a piece of paper. If not, you can take any drawing intended for coloring in children. All contours are clearly drawn there and usually it is not required a large number colors. Glue the sheet with the pattern on thick cardboard.

Now we start gluing the shell. To do this, grease a small fragment of the picture with PVA glue and put a piece of shell on top. If the shell is too large, then you just need to press on top with a stick, the shell will crack and fall apart into several small pieces. Make sure that there is approximately the same distance between the shells.

Having filled one fragment of the picture, we move on to the next.

After filling the entire pattern, set it aside until the glue has completely dried. If you used a white shell, then only after drying, the drawing can be painted with acrylic paints.

Finished work must be varnished. The result is a kind of eggshell appliqué.

See what wonderful paintings made of eggshells by real craftswomen!

If you decide to do decoupage using eggshells, then first select a blank for future crafts. It can be a box, a key holder, a bottle and even a vase.

Master class on decoupage on an eggshell wooden box

This box is wooden, so first we sand the entire surface (both internal and external) with sandpaper. If you have taken up the decoupage of a bottle with an eggshell, then the surface must first be degreased with alcohol.

It depends only on you how large the pieces of the shell will be and the distance between them.

We fill the entire surface in this way.

And once again cover everything with a layer of PVA glue.

After that, we cover the entire workpiece in several layers with white acrylic paint.

And we proceed to gluing the napkin, that is, directly to the decoupage itself.

Let me remind you that three-layer napkins are usually used for decoupage. We only need the top layer - the one on which the drawing. Lubricate the work surface with PVA glue. If the surface is very large, or you are working with rounded objects (a vase, a bottle), then it is better to cut the napkin into two or three fragments. We apply a napkin element to the surface and immediately apply PVA glue on top. We draw a brush from the center to the edges to expel the air from under the napkin.

Thus, we glue the box on all sides.

Set aside for a while to dry completely.

And then - two options (depending on your imagination). The finished work can simply be varnished. And you can also age the box. To do this, you can ask the shells with silver acrylic paint, and apply black pastel to the edges of the box with a foam sponge.

  5. We leave to dry. For water-based paint, about 15 minutes is enough, acrylic dries even less time.

  14. Let dry for at least 20 minutes.
  15. On top we apply a layer of paint that was used for the background with a sponge. For hard-to-reach places and along the edge of the napkin, you can use a brush.
