Traffic circle traffic. Movement around the ring (circle) according to traffic rules. From which lane can I enter the roundabout

Conspiracies

Crossing intersections on busy highways is a tricky maneuver. But even more difficult is the passage of a car at a roundabout. The rules of its passage are somewhat different from the usual ones, so it is advisable to dwell on them in more detail.

What is circular motion

At a normal intersection, the streets "meet" at right angles, and the driver has three options for continuing to move: straight, left, or right. And when entering the intersection of streets with a roundabout, cars find themselves on a circle and move along its diameter in a counterclockwise direction until they turn onto the desired highway, when it turns out to be on the right in the direction of travel.

Their features include:

  • Lack of regulators and.
  • Traffic is regulated by road signs installed there.
  • The signal is required only when changing lanes from one lane to another.
  • Entry to intersections of this type is allowed from any of the on the highway.
  • The roundabout is defined as the main road.

Such intersections are marked with the corresponding road signs:

  • Sign warning of approaching roundabout.
  • A sign informing about the number of streets facing the intersection.
  • A sign pointing to ("Give way").

The video below discusses the procedure for passing roundabouts according to the new rules (SDA):

Rules for passing roundabouts

The passage of roundabouts is regulated by special rules that are visualized on the road through the signs at the disposal of the road service or the markings applied by them. Therefore, at such intersections, one must be especially careful.

One of the main requirements is the observance of traffic lanes. If you can enter from any lane, then you need to rebuild in advance to leave. Otherwise, there are a few key points that you need to tune in well.

  • Right turn. If your car is driving through an intersection in the left or center lane, then you need to change lanes to the extreme right lane in the direction of travel. Just before the turn, you need to slow down.
  • Left turn. With this maneuver, you need to fix attention on the markup. To perform this movement, it is necessary to “stake out” the left lane (according to the movement of the car). Do not forget about the turn signals when driving in a circular manner according to the rules.

The main thing is caution and a correct assessment of the traffic situation at the intersection.

  • Rectilinear movement. Theoretically, for travel in the forward direction, you must choose the middle lane. But if the traffic is two-lane, then you can go both in the left lane along the way and in the right traffic flow. It all depends on what's going on this moment on the roadway of the situation and the road signs and marking lines placed there.
  • Departure. The main rule when driving through intersections with circular traffic installed on them is the requirement to exit exclusively from the right lane along the way. Therefore, to prevent dangerous situations, prepare for this in advance.

We will tell you below about what awaits the driver for violating the rules of driving on a roundabout.

This video diagram of the passage of a roundabout will help you learn how to make a maneuver:

Punishment for violators

When driving through an intersection with a roundabout established there, several points of the rules may be violated. These violations have a different degree of danger, and the punishment for this also varies.

  • A fine of one thousand rubles for the first violation and five thousand for punishable for:
    • Violation at the entrance to this intersection (traffic light, sign).
    • Refusal to provide a travel advantage.
    • Not turning on turn signals when rebuilding a car from a row to a row.
    • Wrong exit from the intersection (from the left lane).
  • For closer than five meters from the intersection or the entrance to the intersection, they will immediately be punished with five thousand rubles.
  • And the movement towards (clockwise) can turn around.

Tips for following the rules of the road when driving roundabouts are given below.

Since roundabouts are nothing new, they are regulated general rules, and there is also enough practical experience, then the observance of certain principles of movement can significantly increase safety when performing this type of maneuver. Here are those tips.

After the introduction of amendments to the existing requirements for the movement of the ring, many drivers do not know how to behave in this section or doubt the correctness of their actions.

Since precise control of vehicles is a necessity, one should be aware of the priority awarded when being in such road places. Learn more about the rules for passing roundabouts.

What is such an intersection?

An intersection is a place of intersection, junction or branching of roads on a single-level plane, which can be limited in the imagination. It should be borne in mind that junctions with bridge platforms do not belong to intersections and other rules of passage are observed at them.

There is a certain classification of intersections:

  • adjustable;
  • unregulated;
  • with circular motion.

When considering each type separately, it is possible to identify differences in the use of these road intersections. At present, interest has increased in roundabouts, where traffic is regulated according to new rules from November 8, 2017.

When a roundabout is established at the intersection of roads, there are no traffic lights.

Such a territory is marked out as an island where vehicles move in a counter-clockwise direction (valid for right-hand traffic). When leaving the circle, drivers follow the normal pattern of traffic.

How to move correctly

Prior to the Decree of the Government of 08.11.2017 that came into force, at roundabouts, drivers were guided by the following requirements:

  1. In the presence of unequal crossing roads, the car approaching along the main one has priority. Drivers driving vehicles with traffic on a secondary road give way to vehicles with priority. The direction of cars on the main road is not taken into account.
  2. Tram vehicles have an advantage over other road users moving in the same or another direction on an equivalent road. Moreover, the direction of the tram movement is not taken into account.
  3. In case of equivalence of intersecting roads, drivers of trackless vehicles must yield to cars that are approaching from the right (rule right hand). But if there is a tram, you should stop and give it priority.
  4. If combined signs 4.3 and 2.4 (2.5) are installed in front of the roundabout, cars on the roundabout have priority over other vehicles that wish to enter the intersection.

After updating the traffic rules, amendments began to work from November 2017:

  • the right-hand rule is omitted, implying the fact that vehicle drivers do not give way to cars on the right (a similar amendment works for trams);
  • with sign 3, drivers must give priority to cars on the ring.

Thus, in 2020, traffic participants at the entrance to the circle do not enjoy the advantage. Vehicles already at the intersection are given priority. You should familiarize yourself with the nuances of the correct movement on the ring.

Lane selection

The DD rules regulate that the entrance to the circle can be carried out from any lane of the adjacent road.

With regard to the need to overcome the ring, it is advisable to give preference to a certain lane:

  • turn right or go straight - it is recommended to occupy the right lane;
  • turn left (reversal) - it is better to change lanes to the left lane;
  • rectilinear overcoming - occupation of the central lane.

If you want to make a right turn, you should slow down and turn on the appropriate turn signal to rebuild the desired lane. Without fail, the rule is not missed that the driver is convinced that there are no other vehicles or his pass. These rules of conduct help avoid interference.

Turning left or U-turn obliges you to first exit to the left lane (the presence of several lanes implies occupying the leftmost lane).

The presence of other road users should be assessed and the necessary turn signals should be turned on. After overcoming the first, second or third exit in the case of a three-lane division, it is recommended to take the right lane.

Rectilinear movement is facilitated by a three-lane road division. In this situation, drivers move to the center lane. When two-lane traffic is observed, the general situation is assessed and the driver is convinced of the legality of his actions.

It is allowed to drive in the right lane with a further choice of a direct direction, but then the risk of an accident increases due to the fact that vehicles from the middle lane can announce the beginning of a right turn maneuver.

Therefore, the preliminary occupation of the middle row or one of the central lanes allows you to overcome the ring without creating interference.

Please note: Before entering the circle, it is worth giving way to pedestrians if an appropriate sign is installed.

Rules for exiting a roundabout

Guided by the rules of the road, every driver should know that the exit to the ring can be carried out from any lane, but you should leave only from the right lane.

It must be remembered that it is necessary to comply special conditions displacement:

  • an objective assessment of the traffic situation and the presence of other road users;
  • in the presence of vehicles that move on the right, it is required to give them priority.

If the conditions are met by all drivers, then the likelihood of getting into an accident is reduced significantly.

Regarding overtaking and stopping at roundabouts, the following requirements are established:

  • drivers are allowed to overtake other vehicles when passing roundabouts;
  • stop should be 5 m from the border of the connection between the road and the territory of the intersection.

Knowing about the features of entry, exit, overtaking and stopping within the ring section of traffic, drivers of cars and other vehicles can reduce the statistics of accidents on the roads.

Liability for traffic violations

Violation of traffic rules in Russia involves bringing to administrative responsibility. Based on the nature of the identified offense and the resulting consequences, a different amount of fine is imposed. The decision on payment is made by the traffic police officer who established the fact of violation.

The following circumstances are possible at roundabouts, the occurrence of which entails payments:

  • entry into the intersection to the forbidding light of a traffic light device;
  • the driver did not give priority to another participant who must use it;
  • moving in the direction of oncoming traffic;
  • the absence of an included turn signal when rebuilding;
  • exit from the intersection is not from the right lane;
  • the vehicle has stopped or parked for a long time within the ring.

The following penalties currently apply:

Therefore, when marking an intersection with a roundabout sign (sign 4.3), certain rules must be observed to prevent an emergency and avoid a penalty.

Is it possible to challenge

You have 10 days to appeal. During this time, it is necessary to file a complaint with the court or the inspection department to which the traffic police officer who imposed the fine is attached.

But there must be a good reason for the challenge:

  1. Absence of violation - when the inspector writes out a fine, but he has no evidence, then in court such cases are rarely decided in favor of the culprit. Officials motivate the refusal by the fact that the actions of the traffic police officer comply with the conditions of the oath. Such a reason can be supplemented by another reason, which brings a positive outcome.
  2. The corpus delicti was not identified - the guilt was not recognized, the culprit was not identified, there is no danger to society. This reason can be considered, for example, when the car was driven by a minor.
  3. The fact of the violation was revealed in circumstances of extreme necessity - serious conditions and causing damage, less significant than in preventing the violation, entail the cancellation of the punishment or prosecution under another article. For example, the driver had to turn from the wrong lane and take advantage of the fact that otherwise a fatal outcome is likely.

Each case of violation should be considered individually and have evidence of innocence or evidence of preventing a situation with more serious consequences.

To avoid long red tape with an appeal, you should drive carefully and correctly overcome the established roundabouts.

Changes in traffic rules: what you need to know about the new rules for crossing intersections

In Russia, regular amendments are being made to the rules of the road. Now ordinary intersections can receive special, diagonal markings, and roundabouts will become “like in Europe”. We explain the essence of the changes.

What is a "waffle iron"?

So they called the diagonal markings, which have long been accepted in other countries and in some places, as an experiment, were used in our country. The decree, which was recently signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, refers to the road markings "Crossroads Zone". This is a yellow square, inside of which there are the same yellow parallel lines intersecting diagonally. Along with the “waffle”, the borders of the intersection can indicate a duplicate sign, which is prescribed to hang no further than 30 meters from the intersection of roads, follows from the text of the decree. Thus, in the presence of a sign, it will no longer be possible to refer to the fact that the marking itself is not visible, for example, due to unremoved snow or because it has faded.

How to pass such an intersection?

The Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to resort to world experience, having despaired of relying on driving culture. Diagonal markings are designed to ensure compliance with paragraph 13.2 of the SDA. He prohibits entering the intersection if there is a traffic jam ahead, which will force you to stop and thus create an obstacle for those moving in the lateral direction. In reality, this prohibition worked poorly. From now on, the grid should indicate the zone that should not be driven into if there is a traffic jam ahead.

For violation, a fine of 1 thousand rubles is provided. Punishment existed before, but the violation was difficult to prove. On the "grid" it will become easier to see drivers who have left the intersection before the traffic jam. The decision on the fine, most likely, will come to you with a “letter of happiness”: photo and video recording cameras will monitor compliance with the “Crossroads Zone” markings.

Natalia Khanina/website

There is only one advice here: if you understand that when you enter the intersection you will not have time to complete the maneuver and leave the “waffle iron” before the red light turns on, it is better to stay behind the stop line altogether. Of course, for sure, especially at first, there will be those who will nervously signal you from behind. Let them buzz, because they will not pay your fines.

What's new in circling?

Another resolution, which was signed by the prime minister, approved the uniform rules for driving at roundabouts. Until now, there was no general order: the rules for driving around the ring could change not only from region to region, but even from intersection to intersection. And it’s good if the drivers were informed about this by the appropriate road signs. Of course, this state of affairs did not contribute to road safety in any way.

Now the order is the same for everyone: the main road is on the ring itself, and those who are just entering the circle must pass. Commenting on these changes, Dmitry Medvedev noted that this is how they drive in almost all European countries. In general, from now on, when entering a roundabout anywhere, we look at traffic lights and priority signs, and in the absence of such, we skip those that are already driving in a circle.

There are many situations on the roads when the driver must correctly orient himself, turn on the turn signal, in order to avoid major or minor accidents. These moments include the situation at the intersection with a roundabout.

Each driver needs to know exactly which turn signal to use, which turn signal to turn on directly at the entrance to the ring and how to competently overcome these sections of roads.

A roundabout is an area of the track where driving takes place counter-clockwise. In the event that cars move along the left carriageway, then at such an intersection, driving will be carried out in the opposite direction.

The main problem of these road sections lies in their lack of regulation: that is, they are not provided with traffic lights, traffic police officers cannot stand there and guide drivers with a baton. It is important to understand that those who move in circles have advantages. Drivers who only want to enter must give way to them.

As for the turn signals themselves. In fact, there is no need to include them. It would be appropriate to include them when moving from one row to another.

What signs are placed at the intersection?

There are two signs that are placed directly in front of the ring section: "roundabout" and "give way". The second appeared later than the first. Its purpose is to determine the dominance of the car on the ring. However, if suddenly this sign is not installed, then even without it, the driver entering the roundabout must yield.

Lane selection

In this matter, it is important to consider which lane the driver was originally from. The traffic rules state that the entrance to the ring area is possible from any lane. If after the circular section the driver needs to turn right, then it would be optimal to take the corresponding line. The same principle works with a left turn after the roundabout: the driver needs to drive on the left lane.

Which turn signals should be turned on at the entrance?

As mentioned above, the direction in which movement is possible on a circular section is always counterclockwise. This leads to the conclusion that it is always necessary to include exclusively right turn signal to indicate the direction. Drivers who turn on the left turn signal are violators of traffic rules.

The left turn signal is allowed to be used only inside the ring when changing lanes. In all other cases, they do not need to be included.

How to travel correctly?

The circle at the intersection of this type is the main roadway, everything else is already secondary. During the movement, the owner of the vehicle must adhere to the lanes of the general movement. If he loses his original lane, then it can cause problems for others and even create a small accident.

Right turn inside the ring

So, what does the driver need to do in order for the passage to be successful:

  • slow down;
  • turn on the turn signal;
  • move to the far right lane;
  • at the entrance, you need to make sure that the other drivers will give way to a new car.

Compliance with such simple rules will provide comfort on the road without any problems and without possible accidents.

Left turn

The driver must orient in advance and rebuild in the appropriate lane. If there are several lanes, then he needs to call in the leftmost lane. If there are two lanes, then at first he drives on the left, and then after the first and second exits, on the right. The main thing is to indicate your direction to other drivers using the necessary turn signal.

The intersection of the intersection, consisting of three rows, is carried out according to the same principle. But there is one distinguishing feature:

  • The driver will have to change lanes twice. This must be done very carefully and carefully.

These methods can be used when there is no other order of transport. To understand who still has advantages in this situation, you need to look at the installed signs and markings.

Directly

Roundabouts can include an indefinite number of connecting roads. This factor will be decisive in the further maneuvers of the drivers. If the number of lanes is more than two, then he needs to continue driving along the middle one. If the car is driving along the main road, then before entering you need to be completely sure that it will be missed. Driving on a secondary road is conditioned by the passage of other drivers.

Does not prohibit driving right side. But this creates some difficulties if a person from the middle row wants to move to the right.

Therefore, it is best to occupy the center row.

Important: immediately before the entrance itself, you must first let all pedestrians through.

Correct exit

Having entered the ring road, the driver must know certain rules indicated above. But there are a few rules when you leave. So, it is necessary to learn that the exit is always made from the right lane. If he was not on the right side, then when rebuilding in the next row, he needs to make sure that he does not create interference and emergencies.

That is, entry is possible from any lane, and exit is only from the right.

Important: overtaking on the ring is allowed.

Penalties

Drivers who do not drive correctly can be fined. If the intersection is regulated by a traffic light and the driver drove through the forbidding light, then he will need to pay 100 rubles. For a repeated offense, the amount is five times more. Also, he can be deprived of his rights for up to six months.

For what else can a fine be issued at intersections of this type:

  • deprivation of advantage;
  • oncoming traffic of a car;
  • turned off turn signal;
  • exit not from the right lane;
  • parking at the intersection.

If the driver did not give an advantage, then the monetary penalty will be 1000 rubles. It is also worth considering that a rule has recently been introduced that allows parking at an intersection, only five meters from the roadway to be crossed. If the distance is not observed, the owner of the car will give 500 rubles.

Important Points

Since 2010, drivers have been guided by the traffic rules, which contained two options for passing roundabouts, and therefore drivers were confused, creating traffic jams and accidents. Since November 8, 2017, legislators have eliminated this defect in traffic rules, and in this article we will talk about what roundabout rules are in force in 2017 and what penalties threaten drivers who violate the rules for passing roundabouts.

Roundabout since November 8, 2017

Since November 8, 2017, innovations have been introduced into the SDA that have changed the requirements for the passage of roundabouts.

The updated traffic rules state that when driving at the intersection of equivalent roads with roundabouts and the established sign 4.3 “Roundabout”, drivers entering this intersection must give way to cars moving along it.

That is, drivers moving in a circle are endowed with advantages over drivers entering it.

If there are traffic lights or priority signs at the roundabout, the driver must follow their requirements while driving.

What is considered a roundabout?

A roundabout is a place where roads intersect, adjoin or branch at the same level and there is a traffic sign "Roundabout". Movement at such an intersection is carried out exclusively counterclockwise, but clockwise movement will be considered a gross violation of the rules.

In addition to the “Roundabout” sign, other signs may be installed at the intersection, for example, the “Main Road” sign. In this case, you will take advantage. When a roundabout is equipped with a traffic light, then you need to be guided by its signals.

A traffic circle at an intersection may have two or more lanes. How to be in such a case?

And so, if you need to leave the circle at the nearest exit, then you do not need to change lanes to the left lane, but drive on the right, without changing lanes anywhere.

When you need to complete the entire circle, then move closer to the center of the circle, where it is more free, and you will not interfere with cars moving out and entering the circle. However, leaving the circle is allowed only from the leftmost lane, unless otherwise prescribed by traffic signs. When the prescriptive signs "Direction of traffic in the lanes" allow entry and exit from a circle of several lanes, then you can do it.

Penalties for drivers who violated the roundabout rules

If you move at a roundabout against the “current”, that is, clockwise, you will be punished as if you were driving “in the opposite direction”, namely, a fine of 5 thousand rubles or lose your license for 4-6 months.

If you violate traffic rules when driving in a circle, for example, when changing lanes, then the fine will be 500 rubles or a warning will be issued.

But in case of violation of the requirements of the “Roundabout” sign, and for not providing an advantage to cars traveling in a circle, the fine will be 1,000 rubles. Remember that now, if there are no traffic lights and priority signs at the intersection, cars traveling in a circle have an advantage in traffic.

Good luck on the roads!
